🧭 The Techno Mixing Philosophy: Architecture Over Correction
The foundational mindset for techno is different. You are not fixing a recording; you are finalizing a design.
The Low End is King (and Queen): The kick and bass are not just elements; they are the foundation upon which the entire track is built. Your primary job is to manage the 30–100 Hz region with surgical precision.
Impact Over Loudness: A professional techno mix is not just loud; it is powerful. This power comes from pristine transients, controlled dynamics, and a perfectly balanced low end that translates on a large system, not from crushing everything with a limiter.
Mono is Non Negotiable for the Low End: Club systems often sum low frequencies to mono. Any stereo information below roughly 120 Hz will cause phase issues, resulting in a weak, muddy, or disappearing low end. Keep everything below 120 Hz strictly mono.
🏗️ Step 1: The Low End Foundation — Kick, Bass & Rumble
This is where techno mixes are won or lost. The goal is to make the kick and bass feel like a single, unified, and powerful entity.
